Our Mission

At King Tiger Taekwondo, our mission is to empower students of all ages through the practice of traditional Taekwondo. We strive to develop confidence, discipline, respect, and strong character while helping our students grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. Through structured training and positive mentorship, we aim to build not only skilled martial artists, but strong and responsible members of our community.

Our core values

How We Work at King Tiger Taekwondo

At King Tiger Taekwondo, our training is built on principles that guide students both inside and outside the dojang. These values shape the way we teach, train, and support our students as they grow.

Respect

Respect is at the heart of martial arts training. Students learn to show respect to instructors, parents, peers, and themselves. Through this practice, they develop strong character and positive habits that carry into school, home, and everyday life.

Community

Taekwondo teaches students the importance of focus, self-control, and perseverance. By setting goals and working toward belt advancement, students develop the discipline needed to succeed both in martial arts and in life.

Confidence

As students overcome challenges and achieve new milestones, their confidence grows. Each class helps them build belief in their abilities while encouraging them to step outside their comfort zone and reach their full potential.

Community

King Tiger Taekwondo is more than a martial arts school — it is a community. We strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students build friendships, celebrate achievements, and encourage one another.

Grand Master Byung Seok Lee

Founder | Owner

Grandmaster Byung Seok Lee took his first steps in Taekwondo in 1972, but his serious training began a few years later. His journey started when an older Taekwondo practitioner in his neighborhood began teaching on the streets. Although his first experience with Taekwondo took place in a formal dojang, his true training happened every morning, practicing alongside friends under the guidance of his senior instructor. As time passed, Grandmaster Lee followed in his mentor’s footsteps. In 1982, he began teaching Taekwondo to children in his neighborhood who could not afford training fees, gathering them on the streets each morning to share the art of Taekwondo. In 1986, he took on the role of an instructor at Wang Ho Taekwondo in Naebalsan-dong, Seoul, while also briefly teaching Taekwondo during physical education classes at Hwagok Middle School. Soon after, he moved to the United States, where he gained valuable experience in dojang management and hands-on instruction while working as an instructor at Grandmaster HK Lee’s Taekwondo School. In June 1988, Grandmaster Lee relocated to Greenville, North Carolina, and opened his own Taekwondo dojang, marking the beginning of his Taekwondo legacy in the United States. Since then, he has remained dedicated to spreading the teachings and philosophy of Taekwondo, shaping the lives of countless students.
